UPCOMING EVENTS

Taught Classes every WEDNESDAY and SATURDAY 10am at Higginson’s Park by Cricket Pavilion (Weather Permitting* – a waterproof jacket is a good accessory, as will continue unless torrential rain, and there is also shelter nearby at pavilion to keep dry from heavier downpours). Just drop in. Please see below for more information.

Important Information:-*

So far this year we have been so lucky with fine weather for our meetings.

Please do check our Facebook Page (See Links Page) and join our Whatsapp group for directions before classes, if weather uncertain, as to last minute possible venue change in rain or extreme cold. Or alternatively can contact Mark by phone or text (number on website contacts).

With Autumn and Winter months coming, if there is rain, we will book a room in Court Gardens Leisure Centre, either a Squash Court, Elliot Hall, or the Sports Hall, depending upon availability, and size of the group.

For morning and day workshops we will hire a hall or other suitable venue for a longer session.

We will always endeavour to be there on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10am (unless extreme unforeseen circumstances), so if we are not at the usual park spot, or under the cricket pavilion veranda (if raining and cannot book a venue), please go into the main entrance of the Sports Centre and find us (likely the squash court as mostly available at short notice). We will also leave a message on reception of where to find us.

We want to continue to practise outdoors in nature whenever sensible to, so warm clothes, scarves and woolly hats aplenty over the coming months!

We are fortunate to have two highly experienced Teachers (Ian and Simon) who have said will cover any classes that Mark cannot make, dependent upon their own Teaching schedule.

Although, we want to continue making this a free event entirely, donations when hiring a hall will be needed to sustain hire through winter (however, this is very minimal, squash courts £11 per 40 mins for members, and the sports hall £30 per hour for both courts).

We can comfortably fit 25 in the squash court and many more if in the sports hall, so will only be around a £1-£2 each at the very most, and any money over, will be put aside for future venue hire.

Please note is totally a donation and no money is required if cannot or do not wish to.

James has kindly agreed to act here as treasurer, and Mel as a member of the sports centre will kindly book the venue for us, and Adam is too.

*Please Note: Update – We did the class under the pavilion veranda and although not ideal is suitably dry for about 10 of us, if required.

If you are interested in participating in a taught class, please contact us, to see when these are commencingor to help arrange one, or to simply book in, or just drop in on Wednesdays and Saturdays (please see Notes Section).

Please note that ALL classes are FREE, as is the intention of Wild Swan Flowing River Qigong, to make no money whatsoever (and hold no cash and have no bank account). Donations to cover hall hire, etc or to the venues themselves, are welcome to cover any incurred overheads.

If you would like to practise Qigong within your organisation, such as school, hospital, charity, religious centre, care home, etc please contact us to arrange.

Taught Classes

Introduction To Qigong – These are casual drop in stand-alone classes giving an introduction to the various practises, preliminaries, warm ups, flows and postures. If a small group of people are interested we can arrange individually for a suitable time and location to suit. There is room for much flexibility here. These typically last about an hour and ideally are outdoors, particularly in the warmer months.

Please contact to arrange

Five Elements 1 – The first set of flows for the Five Element Qigong routine will take place over 6-8 sessions. Each session is typically an hour and likely a hall will be used, particularly in the Winter months. These will take place at the same time and location each week.

The five principle flows here are:-

1. Buddha Holds Up The Earth
2. The Fountain
3. Sways Like A Tree
4. Cloudy Hands
5. Pebble In The Pond (Single Handed)

A take home practise will be attained through attendance, and one where can practise with others collectively also as wish.

Wednesdays From Wednesday 26th June 2024. 10am. Ongoing. Higginson’s Park by Cricket Pavilion. (Weather Permitting).

Saturdays From Saturday 29th June 2024. 10am. Ongoing. Repeat session as above (attendance at both will help solidify practise as inclined).

Please feel free to join us after for a chat and cuppa – likely Court Gardens Cafe Veranda (indoors if cold!)

Five Elements 2  The second set of flows will also take place over 6-8 sessions, similarly to the first set practise. It is best to complete the first set before commencing with these.

The five principle flows are:-

1. Soaring Crane
2. Zen Circles
3. Repulse The Monkey
4. Fair Lady Works The Shuttle
5. Pebble In The Pond (Double Handed)

Once both of these courses have been attended then, if so wish, are encouraged to wear an orange belt sash (see About Meetings), to help identify the group publicly and also so that newer members can seek assistance in the practise. These can be purchased from any martial art shop, or from Ebayon Amazon, etc, or bought directly from Mark for cost price.

Dates will simply follow on from Five Elements 1 above (Wednesdays and Saturdays).

Meetings

Ideally sessions will be held in Higginson’s park, weather permitting, and it is good if have first initially completed one of the taught classes above, and then can help facilitate, or simply attend as feel inclination.

Harmony in nature, with community, is the overall intention, and thus practising outdoors in nature where possible and applicable, amongst trees, flowers, birds, and near the river, will be the main aim throughout.
